Configuring Geo Rules
Geo rules let you control exactly which visitors see sponsored offers on your website. You define an allowlist of countries and regions where your core content is available — visitors outside that list are classified as "blocked" and eligible to see offers.
How geo rules work
When a visitor arrives at your site, the AffilFinder script sends a decision request that checks the visitor's country (and optionally region) against your geo rules:
- Allowed — The visitor is in a country or region on your allowlist. They see your normal website content and no overlay appears.
- Blocked — The visitor is not on the allowlist. In geo-blocking mode, they see a sponsored-offer overlay. In section mode, the offers section is populated.
Setting up geo rules
1. Open the website detail page for the site you want to configure.
2. Click Manage and then Geo rules.
3. Add the countries where your product or service is available. For example, if you are licensed in the UK, Malta, and Sweden, add those three countries.
4. Optionally, narrow down to specific regions within a country if your service area is sub-national.
5. Save your rules.
All other countries are automatically treated as blocked, and visitors from those locations may see sponsored offers.
Custom messaging
You can configure custom copy for the blocked experience. This lets you control the headline or message visitors see before the offers load — useful for maintaining your brand voice even on the blocked path.
Tips
- Start with a tight allowlist of your core markets and expand as needed.
- You can update geo rules at any time without changing the script on your site.
- Geo rules are managed per website, so different sites can have different configurations.
- Review your analytics to see traffic breakdowns by country and fine-tune your rules.
Next steps
- View analytics to see how traffic splits between allowed and blocked visitors.
- Learn about billing and payouts to understand how you earn from clicks.
